This
will be the fourth Lighthouse Run - it has now earned its place as a firm
fixture in the Construction Industry Calendar, with generous sponsorship
and assistance from a great many individuals and organisations.
The event has so far
raised well over £100,000 for the Benevolent Fund, and we're aiming
for a further £50,000 in sponsorship for this year's event.
You could describe
the Lighthouse Run as a good old-fashioned jolly-up, and to extent, you'd
be right. After all - 'end to end' is a fine British motoring tradition
that goes back to the roaring twenties. However- there's a lot more to
it.
Driving
that kind of distance in two days without knowing what route you'll be
taking and whilst having to complete tasks (some of them cryptic) on the
way is an achievement by anybody's standards. Most importantly, each team
was raising funds for the Lighthouse Club Benevolent Fund which provides
direct, practical financial assistance to construction workers and their
families in time of need, without them having to jump through bureaucratic
hoops.
There is no
better way of summing up the event than by viewing the video or reading
some of the comments and banter from the runners on the Message
Board.
